Parochial Church Council (PCC)

The role of the PCC is to work in co-operation with the minister in promoting the mission of the church, and to ensure that there are the resources to make that possible. The PCC is legally responsible for the maintenance of the building, and for any contracts entered into by the church. It presents audited accounts to the church at the annual meeting.

Members of the PCC are elected from the congregation at the Annual Parochial Church meeting (APCM) which usually takes place in April. To be eligible to be elected you must be on the electoral roll of the church. At the same time representatives to the Deanery Synod and Churchwardens are also elected. At the APCM the annual accounts and other reports are presented to the church.

A Traidcraft stall, specializing in foodstuffs and commodities, is held once a month at St. John's, normally after Parish Communion on the fourth (or fifth) Sunday. Old Coulsdon Congregational Church also sell from our stock which we get from Opportunities Through Trade.

The principle behind Traidcraft, which is largely sold through voluntary representatives, is to ensure the workers producing foodstuffs, commodities and crafts get a fair price for their labours. Traidcraft go further than most other Fair Trade outlets; they actively advise and support the small producers and their community. St. John's Church and other good causes benefit from the small profit made by the stall.

Christian Aid/Traidcraft/CAFOD Christmas cards are sold in the pre-Christmas period and an occasional clothing display has been arranged. Other goods from a catalogue can be obtained on order, post free.
