A HOT SUPPER with WINE FOR JUST 3.00?   St. John’s MU invites you all to their ‘SUPPER & AGM’ at 7.30pm on Wednesday, 31st January in the Old Church.  All welcome to join us, members and non-members alike.  We have a short AGM with a glass of wine when we can hear what the branch has been busy with during 2017 and what is planned for 2018 – followed by a delicious meal.  We hope lots of you will come and join us for this supper and the chance to learn what an active MU branch we have at St. John’s.

1.  MESSY CHURCH …   desperately needs more helpers in the church kitchen on Tuesday afternoons in school term-time, particularly with making tea, drinks and snacks … and if you were able to provide food for the tea e.g. sandwiches, pasta, etc. that would be a bonus.  If you could help in any way on some Tuesday afternoons between 3.30 – 5.00ish, or would like to find out more of what is involved, Christine McCutchion (01737 553681) would be delighted to hear from you.

2.  BAPTISM SERVICES …   We need a few people willing to go on a rota to help welcome people to our Baptism services usually at 12.15 p.m. on the first Sunday in the month (occasionally also the third Sunday).  Many guests coming for these services do not know the church and a warm welcome, including helping people to find seats with their group, ensuring everyone has a service sheet, etc. is one of the most important parts of their visit.  If you could help between 11.45 & 1.30ish on some of these Sunday mornings please contact the Parish Office on 01737 552461 or email

3.  HOSTS NEEDED!   Parents who want to have their children Baptised at St. John’s come to two preparation meetings – the first in a parishioner’s home followed by a meeting in church with Paul and/or Sue.  Over the years we have had some lovely people who have offered us their living rooms (including tea and coffee) for the first meetings but we are down to just two at present as others have moved away or are no longer able to help.  If you could offer to welcome a small group (about 6/8) into your home about three times a year, and have a DVD player, Lynn & Wendy (01737 551413 – or through the Parish Office), the group leaders, would be really pleased to hear from you and happy to tell you more.

PART-TIME SAFEGUARDING TRAINING ADMINISTRATOR   If you are a strong administrator with excellent IT skills, the ability to effectively prioritise and manage your workload, and you are looking for a challenging and rewarding role, then this may be the opportunity for you.  The Diocesan Safeguarding Team supports parishes and senior clergy to safeguard children and adults who may be at risk of abuse and neglect, and those in abusive relationships.  As a vital part of the safeguarding team, the Training Administrator supports the department through a variety of tasks from the booking and administration of safeguarding training courses run by the Diocese and content management of training webpages through to the maintenance of a safeguarding training record database.  This is a part-time position working 17.5 hours per week and is based at the Diocese of Southwark, London Bridge SE1.  Salary: 26,000 per annum, pro rata.  The closing date for this vacancy is Sunday, 28th January 2018.  Interviews for shortlisted candidates will take place on Wednesday, 7th February 2018.  To apply for this post visit and enter cofe/TP/2997/311
