Appointment of Secretary to the Parochial Church Council of St John’s Church   The PCC of St John’s Church is inviting applications for the post of Honorary Secretary.  The job involves  Working with the Rector to plan agendas    Distributing agendas and minutes    Taking minutes of meetings    Receiving mail on behalf of the PCC, and being named in the Diocesan Directory    Helping in the preparation and running of the Annual Church Meeting    Attending 5 evening meetings per year of the PCC, 5 standing committee meetings if possible, occasional meetings with the Rector, and the Annual Parochial Church Meeting which is held on a Sunday morning.  Helpful qualities and skills:    Reliability and punctuality      Ability to take minutes    Word-processing skills and use of internet for e-mails.
The role of the PCC in the church is similar to that of the Governors of the school.  In co-operation with the Rector the responsibilities of the PCC include    promoting the mission of the church in the parish     sharing in the spiritual leadership of the church    overseeing the finances of the church and issuing audited accounts    entering into any contracts on behalf of the church    acting as an employer when necessary    appointing Foundation Governors to the school.  The secretary is usually not a voting member of the PCC, but may be so if elected.   If you are interested and would like further information, please contact the Rector, Rev’d Paul Roberts.

COULD YOU HELP TIM?   I could really use the help of a volunteer at the after-school event for parents and children that I do on Wednesdays during Term Time at Byron (Oasis) Family Centre.  It’s just 3:30-4:30pm  to make toast and squash for up to 15 people.  Facilities are already there, it would just release me to chat .. it’s called “Chill n Chat” and has been running for 3yrs.  Please contact me if you could offer an hour in Christian Service.  I can offer a lift home afterwards.  Thank you,    Tim  or 07986 297189

Hustings: If you would like to meet … your parliamentary candidates standing in the General Election, there is an opportunity organised by Croydon Churches Forum on June 1st at Christ Church, Brighton Road, Purley, CR8 2BN.  Come and meet the candidates for Croydon South and hear them answer questions.  Doors open 7.30 p.m., Questions & Answers 8.00-9.30 p.m.

We look forward to seeing everybody – young and older – at the celebration of Pentecost at 12.30 p.m. in Coulsdon Memorial Park (at the bottom of Marlpit Lane).  All the Coulsdon Churches will be meeting together for this special event.  At Pentecost we remember the coming of the Holy Spirit to the disciples as Jesus had promised, empowering them to preach the good news.  Many see Pentecost as the ’birthday’ of the Christian church.  We hope you’ll come and join in the celebration. There will be activities for the children and, of course, lots of space to move about.  So bring the family, come on your own or come with a friend … and why not bring a picnic and make an extra special day of it?

‘Asyla Ensemble’ Concert - 10th June   At last the next concert from the Asyla Ensemble is nearly here!  Conducted by Ollie Till, Amy's fiancé, they present an extraordinary evening of twentieth-century city sounds recorded in New York ('City Life' by Steve Reich) surrounded by eighteenth-century Parisian dance music (Suite from 'Les Indes Galantes' by Rameau).  Venue: St John's Church, Waterloo, SE1 8TY.  Date and Time: Saturday 10th June, 7pm   Tickets: £12/£8 available on the door.  See for more details.
